McCaysville is
a city in Fannin
County, Georgia.
The population was
1,071 at the 2000
census. McCaysville
is situated along the
Georgia /
Tennessee border in
the North Georgia
Mountains.
The
Toccoa River runs
right through McCaysville
and then flows northwest
into Tennessee where
it is called the Ocoee
River.
The Ocoee is noted among fishermen
for its sunfish, trout, and bass. It
is also well known to
whitewater enthusiasts
for its rapids. There
are many excellent trout
streams nearby including
the Jacks River and
the Conasauga River.
The
North Georgia Mountains
provide many exciting
opportunities for outdoor
recreation and are within
minutes of Grant's Summit. The
Appalachian Trail,
a 2,100 miles long foot
path, follows
the crest of the Appalachian
Mountains and extends
some eighty miles through
the primitive areas
of the Chattahoochee
National Forest.
Rising at times to elevations
over 4400 feet, the
Trail offers unlimited
hiking adventure of
exceptional challenge
and variety.
Then
there's the lakes which
offer a multitude of
outdoor fun including
boating, skiing, and
bass fishing. From
hiking and fishing,
to festivals and train
rides, there's all kinds
of excitement within
minutes of Grant's Summit!
Fannin
County is
named for Georgia
native James Fannin,
who fought and died
during the Texas Revolution.
Fannin
County has one of the best
school systems in
the country. The Fannin
County Board of Education
operates three elementary
schools, a middle school,
and a comprehensive
high school which offers
vocational education
in an additional facility
located on campus. Student
